Toenail Fungus is Onychomycosis, which is
a living, fungal infection that is found in a damp and dark
environment like under or around your finger or toenails, the toenail
being most prevalent. Thereby making toenail fungus difficult to
cure and timely. Did you know that toenail fungus occurs in 12
million Americans and that there are many more people, who do not
even realize that they have Onychomycosis, or toenail fungus.
You will know you have toenail fungus when you notice that there is a small separation forming between the end of your nail and the skin of your toe. In this separation you will gradually see a soft yellow or opaque discolored material building up, and the nail will eventually become thick and yellow in color, and can become rough and brittle. There may even be some white spots or streaks that may appear on the toe nail. Overtime the entire toenail will eventually separate from the toe, and will leave a partially destroyed, and yellow nail. If you are experiencing pain or itching from the toenail fungus, then there is more than likely an infection, since by itself, toenail fungus does not usually itch or cause any pain. Since fungus likes to grow in damp and dark environments you need to keep your nails clean, dry, and short, after the toenail fungus has been cured, to help prevent it from growing back. After you finish bathing be sure that you dry your feet well, and make sure that you get between your toes. If your feet sweat a lot, make sure you change you socks regularly, several times a day. You can help keep your feet dry by avoiding to wear socks or hose that are made from polyester or nylon, since they do not absorb sweat well. Wear either 100% cotton, wool, or even silk socks and hoses, since they will absorb the moisture around your feet, and provide better ventilation. Also by wearing shoes that allow plenty of air flow, will help with ventilation (i.e. air holes on the sides). Click Here
